Exploring Different Assumptions about Outcome-Related Risk Perceptions in Discrete Choice Experiments

چکیده

Abstract Environmental outcomes are often affected by the stochastic nature of environment and ecosystem, as well effectiveness governmental policy in combination with human activities. Incorporating information about risk discrete choice experiments has been suggested to enhance survey credibility. Although some studies have incorporated design treated it either weights corresponding environmental or a stand-alone factor, little research discussed implications those behavioural assumptions under explored individuals’ outcome-related perceptions context where can be described improvement deterioration. This paper investigates for gain loss domains together examines differences choices air quality changes China using experiment. Results suggest that respondents consider both domains, their elicited patterns best direct aversion, which states individuals obtain disutility directly from increasing regardless associated outcomes. We discuss implication our results provide recommendations on model specification when incorporating risk.

Ranking in discrete choice experiments

A common problem in ethology is ranking of animal preferences for several discrete stimuli or options. We considered experiments where animals chose one of all possible simultaneously presented options. The animals might be observed at repeated occasions. In the ethological literature the analysis is often focused on testing the global hypotheses of no difference in preferences by non-parametri...

Validity of discrete-choice experiments: Evidence for health risk reduction

There is growing interest in discrete-choice experiments (DCE) as a method to elicit consumers' preferences in the health care sector. Increasingly this method is used to determine willingness-to-pay (WTP) for health-related goods. However, its external validity in the health care domain has not been investigated until today. This paper examines the external validity of DCE concerning the reduc...

Discrete Choice Experiments Are Not Conjoint Analysis

We briefly review and discuss traditional conjoint analysis (CA) and discrete choice experiments (DCEs), widely used stated preference elicitation methods in several disciplines. We pay particular attention to the origins and basis of CA, and show that it is generally inconsistent with economic demand theory, and is subject to several logical inconsistencies that make it unsuitable for use in a...

Detecting, Non-Transitive, Inconsistent Responses in Discrete Choice Experiments

Surveys focusing on choice behaviour, and in particular, Discrete Choice Experiments (DCEs) are widely used in studies across many disciplines, including transportation, marketing research, health economics, labour economics and environmental studies. Investigation of the 'rationality' of responses in choice experiments has received a fair bit of attention from researchers. Most of this researc...
